Blue Balls

(Picture Intensive Blog post, Sorry for the Quality of some pics, I didn't have a lot of time to adjust for lighting etc)

So Doug and I left yesterday around 2:45pm. We drove to Dallas, taking it moderate and relaxed since it didn't begin until 6pm. We arrived at Virgin Megastore right before 5pm.

Inside we walked around and just generally looked through stuff while we waited. I found some CDs I haven't been able to find anywhere else, but stupid price tags kept me from getting them.

$14.99 - No thanks
$18.99 - Yeah, same to you buddy

I realized after looking at some DVD sets, that they were just charging the MSRP. No stores charge this, because for most of humanity, the MSRP is an outrageous price. It sucks to see and hold something in your hand you have been looking for, for a long time, but not buy it because of the price.

We made our way over to the growing crowd to stake out our spot. This is the same place Hunter, Justin, Deanna, and i saw Zac Maloy about four years ago by the way. Most of the crowd was sitting down, having waited for assorted times more than we had. And we basically just waited.

with about 40 minutes to go, everyone decided to stand up. Now, I'm pretty tall, but I couldn't see shit. This was by far the tallest crowd I have ever been a part of. Luckily Doug saw a small open spot on the left near the performance area by a big group of ladies, so we proceeeded over there and set our roots for the day.

At 6, there is still no Blue, and we can see them outside at their tour bus so we know it's still not time. At 6:30, some guy from KDGE came out to talk to us, and he wasn't funny at all. He stood there for about 5 minutes making horrible jokes and just making me hate radio even more. He said Blue would be out within ten minutes and left.

Finally they came out.

Justin spoke a moment thanking us for coming and thanking the EDGE for everything they had done for the band. The first song they sang was Into The Ocean.

This was the first of the Foiled songs I hadn't heard that I fell in love with. I was floored and ecstatic that they played this first, as it was one of the ones i wanted to hear the most.

Love These Two

The next song, he said was for anyone who has ever done anything wrong in their entire life. They then played Hate me.

They crawled in like a cockroach leaving babies in my bed...

Jeremy layin down a phat beat yo.

Ryna crooning

This was the best pic I have of CB and Matt, but it did come out very well with both of them and justin in view.

Justin told us that they were playing only one more song. They were originally only going to do 2. That's right, only 3 songs total. They ended with 18th Floor balcony. I only got 2 pictures of this song. Since it was the end of the very small set I just wanted to enjoy it.

So that was it. Three songs. under most circumstances I would be furious at the lack of a set, but I'm not. The entire day, 4+ hours of driving, all planned around 3 songs. But it was totally worth it, because there really is nothing quite like Blue october live.

There was also a deal where we got screwed out of seeing them because Virgin records can go fuck itself, but that was in the background.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat because it's more than just music. It's a connection to the experience and it's worth it every time even for just a sample.

I have some more pictures, but generally they didn't turn out well. Shakey, out of focus, a bad filter, it just caused about half of em to be bad quality. The ones that worked though worked well enough and i'm glad I have some stuff to remember the day by.

Man, I remember the Zac performance...it was great considering we were in the middle of the belly of the beast known as Virgin records...cause being in the belly of virgin girls is quite the place to be...or so I've heard.

Anywho...I regret not knowing about it and heading to see them...you're on the nose when you say that Blue is more than just music...it's like a beautiful memory that you play over and over whenever you think back...full of sound and color...touching your soul...I have to get that CD soon!!!
